IMPACT OF CYBERSECURITY ON ENERGY
But demand is not the only thing on the rise . With advancements in digitalisation and connectivity brought about by Electricity 4.0 , cybersecurity concerns across the energy sector are mounting , with Schneider Electric addressing reliability and integrity of critical power infrastructure first-hand .
“ Cybersecurity is one of the biggest challenges today ,” Sharma stresses . “ In fact , it ’ s even bigger than just the pure availability of energy . If you don ’ t have enough energy , you know you can ’ t deliver . But with cybersecurity , it ’ s really hard to control because you don ’ t even know how many people are just focused on destroying grids , to give one example .”
With Electricity 4.0 and the wider digitised world being more interconnected than ever , cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important , with the ongoing evolution of cybersecurity threats exasperating the need for constant vigilance and improvement in defence measures .
“ The key here is to be able to specialise in the IT environments and have tailored action plans , which bridge the gap between cyber defence and cybersecurity . It ’ s so important . We have a lot of strategic partnerships because it ’ s about having systems and tools to be able to understand the entire end-to-end system vulnerability .
“ Do I feel 100 % confident that we are at the best stage ? I don ’ t think anybody should ever feel that way because these situations are evolving literally every day .
“ Typically in business , one would think about competition . None of this is even about competition ,” he adds , manifesting how working together is key in the pursuit of this common goal .
