THE ENERGY INTERVIEW
I ndianOil is evolving.
The state-owned multinational oil and gas heavyweight is aiming to increase refining capacity by 25 %, expand its petrochemicals business and ramp up renewable energy to 30GW to name a few – all while reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels and working towards net zero emissions by 2046.
In an exclusive interview with Energy Digital at India Energy Week( IEW), IndianOil’ s new Chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney shares how the energy giant is balancing fossil fuels and sustainability in a bid to support India ' s energy transition.
IndianOil: The road ahead India’ s energy landscape is undergoing a significant transformation as the country as a whole aims to balance its growing energy needs.
One way IndianOil is supporting this shift is by working to increase its refining capacity, with plans to boost it by 25 % in the coming years. IndianOil owns and operates 11 of India ' s 23 refineries.
Although sustainability and refining may come across as two conflicting areas, Arvinder notes the important role IndianOil plays.
“ Today we are around 87 % to 88 % dependent on crude oil import for meeting our requirements,” he explains.
