AUSTRALIA’ S ANTIMONY BOOM IS SECURING ENERGY SUPPLY CHAIN
Australia’ s Port Pirie is fast becoming one of the anchors of the global clean energy supply chain. The site produces around 15 % of all the world’ s antimony – a mineral that is essential for manufacturing energy storage solutions. For years, China, Russia and Tajikistan dominated global antimony production, accounting for more than 90 % of supply. This near-monopoly left advanced economies highly reliant on those countries, particularly when it came to the production of renewable energy technologies.
