Speaking at the time, Sama Bilbao y Leon, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, said:“ The unprecedented support announced today by some of the world’ s most influential companies to at least triple global nuclear capacity by 2050 sends a clear signal to accelerate policy, finance and regulatory changes that enable the rapid expansion of nuclear power.”
Meta’ s 6.6GW nuclear arsenal Of the Big Tech firms, Meta has perhaps been most enthusiastic in its pursuit of nuclear capacity. In January 2026 the company put pen to paper on a trio of 20-year power purchase agreements with Vistra, TerraPower and Oklo.
To date, Meta has committed to offtake 6.6GW of nuclear power by 2035, which is roughly equivalent to the average power demand of Singapore. The Vistra agreement alone covers more than 2.1GW across three plants, Perry and Davis-Besse in Ohio and Beaver Valley in Pennsylvania.
After signing the deal, Jim Burke, President and CEO of Vistra, said:“ This agreement is beneficial in many ways. It powers American innovation and AI technology, while allowing us to extend the operational life of these plants, boost the capacity of the nuclear reactors to support the grid, protect existing jobs while creating new ones and continue investing in the communities where our plants are located.”
The two other deals Meta signed earlier this year point toward a less proven but potentially more transformative future.
