A statement on the company ’ s website about their process expresses their desire to “ create a culture that fosters the willingness of employees to voluntarily commit themselves to NextEra Energy and that inspires their loyalty to work for us .”
Corporate responsibility NextEra has made a commitment to help the communities they serve , and in 2012 , the company , its subsidiaries and employees contributed more than $ 8 million to causes supporting those communities . Their United Way campaign raised a recordsetting $ 3.1 million . Additionally , the company frequently collaborates with educational partners to develop educational and training programs to help students prepare for the 21st century global marketplace .
Through its primary subsidiary , Florida Power and Light ( FPL ), NextEra developed a program to build solar

arrays at schools and public sites throughout Florida . The program allows the energy produced by the solar panels to be used as bill credits for the host site , saving them money on energy costs . It also provides educational opportunities for students and communities to learn about clean energy . FPL incentivizes teachers who build lesson plans that will make science , technology , engineering and math ( STEM ) classes more interesting and interactive for their students . In both 2012 and 2013 , FPL awarded $ 50,000 in grant funds to 43 teachers in the 28 school districts they serve .
