With nine million solar panels across 9.5 square miles , the Topaz farm provides power to 160,000 homes throughout San Luis Obispo County . BHE Renewables estimates the electricity generated at the farm displaces 407,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year , the equivalent of taking 77,000 cars off the road .
