The US $ 1bn Gemini Solar Project is located on Bureau of Land Management land in the northeastern portion of the Mojave Desert , approximately 25 miles northeast of the Las Vegas metropolitan area in an unincorporated area of Clark County , Nevada .
Spanning more than 7,000 acres , it would be the largest in US history and eighth largest globally . The Gemini project will feature 690MW solar PV installations , as well as a 380MW battery energy storage facility .
It is proposed to be developed and operated by Solar Partners XI , a wholly-owned subsidiary of Valley of Fire , which acquired it from BrightSource Energy . Arevia Power will serve as the development manager . NV Energy , a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy , signed a 25-year power purchase agreement ( PPA ) for the mega-project in June 2019 .
