ENTERPRISE DX of projects to help tackle some of the UK ’ s biggest and most complex network challenges . Nine projects will now move into an early trial phase where their solutions to help move the country towards achieving its net zero emissions targets will be assessed .
The network provider has had all nine of its proposals – funded by network users and consumers under the Strategic Innovation Fund ( SIF ), an Ofgem programme managed in partnership with Innovate UK – approved as it seeks to deliver innovation through pioneering net zero projects . There are three data and digitalisation projects :
1 . Enhance substation security and data access Replacing the RTU connection with a direct connection to analytic servers removes the connection between the RTU and asset monitors .
SP Energy Networks will design a holistic data connector ( Digi-GIFT ) to communicate directly to asset monitors pulling back real-time asset data , alerts and analytics to analysts . In addition to the direct benefits of real-time information and improved security , this would act as an enabler to wider benefits from concepts such as the Digital Twin and unlock the benefits in line with the GB energy network digitalisation strategy priorities .
2 . Develop a digital twin As a Transmission Owner , SP Energy Networks is a critical path and interface between the ESO and Distribution networks . The idea is to develop a digital twin of the distribution system and use it to provide a service to NGESO that will aid in distributed energy sources ’ decision-making when choosing which source ( s ) to use to balance the NETS , so as not to adversely impact the operation of the distribution network . energydigital . com 37
