The breadth of the tie-ups is indicative of the scale of the decarbonisation challenges , which are beyond the capability of one company – or indeed any one sector . It ' s going to take a huge collaborative effort .
As the world comes to terms with how best to provide clean renewable energy at scale , any partnership – uniting knowledge , resources and budgets – is to be welcomed .
But amid all the alliances , joint ventures and trials , the focus must be on efficiencies .
Net zero should be viewed as an immediate , universal and , perhaps most importantly , non-competitive priority . The IPCC warns us that greenhouse gas emissions must peak by 2025 .
It ' s not enough to work together – we must do so as quickly and productively as possible .
