NUCLEAR SMRs
Power plants based on SMRs may require less frequent refuelling – every three to seven years , in comparison to between 1 and 2 years for conventional plants . In comparison , some SMRs are designed to operate for up to 30 years without refuelling .
Rolls-Royce claims its SMRs have four key attributes : low-cost ; deliverable ; scalable globally ; and ‘ investable ’. A Rolls-Royce SMR power station will have the capacity to generate 470MW of low-carbon energy , equivalent to more than 150 onshore wind turbines .
“ A new generation of nuclear power is at the heart of the UK ' s plans for a secure , low-carbon energy mix ”
