Veolia Energy is a successor of the 1887 Boston Heating Company, and today operates a 26-mile district system in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as systems in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Kansas City, Tulsa, Houston and other cities
In 1980, Compagnie Générale des Eaux( CGE, the forerunner of Veolia) acquired Compagnie Générale de Chauffe, entering district heating and energy services and marking the start of its evolution from a water utility into a multi-service group
To enter the district heating market more broadly, Veolia in 2007 purchased Trigen, a national company operating heating networks in several US cities
