The company ’ s involvement in solar comes as many states are beginning to re-evaluate policies that have driven major growth in the practice . Only a handful of states have laws allowing net metering for homes or businesses , according to the National Conference of State Legislatures . In December , Mississippi became the 46th state to adopt broad rules promoting solar power .
As of right now , solar accounts for roughly one percent of the country ’ s total reported electricity generation , with two-thirds of that from utility-scale solar arrays .
