While much media attention has been focused recently on big picture public policy frameworks for Ontario ’ s electricity sector ( e . g . role of renewables , new / refurbished nuclear , imports / exports ), an emergent good news story , particularly in waterpower development , has gone largely unnoticed – the growth of the participation of Aboriginal Communities . And the experience being gained here in Ontario in fostering positive business relationships is a microcosm of what the CANADA sector across North America is witnessing . For it is no longer a question of “ whether ”

business relationships with First Nations can prosper , rather “ how ” to advance mutual objectives .
The Ontario Waterpower Association ( OWA ) has long recognized the importance of positive and productive relationships with Aboriginal Organizations and interests . For almost a decade the OWA has collaborated with First Nations and government to deliver “ Capacity Building ” initiatives to build the awareness , understanding and ability in communities with an interest in waterpower development . In 2010 , the OWA and the Chiefs of Ontario signed a “ Letter of Agreement ” to support
