Importantly , the relationship is premised on the concept of a “ Two Row Wampum ”, respecting the dignity and integrity of one another and stressing the importance of non-interference . The relationship has enabled collective training and learning for both Aboriginal communities and industry practitioners in areas ranging from Environmental Assessment to Impact Benefit Agreements and , this year , Business Planning and
investment Strategies .
In 2012 , the OWA expanded its commitment to encouraging and enabling Aboriginal participation in the sector through the establishment of a new relationship with the Queen ’ s University Aboriginal Access to Engineering Program . The program is committed to increasing the number of Aboriginal engineers in Canada . By promoting math and science to elementary and high school students , supporting the efforts of their teachers , and enabling access to postsecondary study , it encourages more Aboriginal youth to become qualified engineers .
