economic benefits of V2G and enhance the product market .
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers ( IEEE ) is also invested in the advancement of V2G . The IEEE Power and Energy Society hosts an annual Conference on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies , with its seventh conference to be held in October . Their 2013 conference featured a symposium on V2G technology and wireless charging , which included a panel discussion on current challenges and the possibility of eventual dynamic wireless charging , or vehicle charging while in motion .

“ smart grid technology could also enable electric vehicles to feed electricity stored in their batteries back into the system when needed ”

Potential Impact A recent statement from the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative , a nonprofit dedicated to promoting smart grids and their advancement , read “ All told , the smart grid promises to increase the efficiency of today ’ s system by around 9 % by 2030 , saving more than 400 billion kilowatthours each year .” In addition to the energy saved , the Natural Resources Defense Council claims that smart grid technology has the potential to provide other benefits including “ cleaner air , better health , lower electricity bills , and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere .”
Financially , the technology could lead to a major amount in savings : a study by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in partnership with the United States Department of Energy estimated that modernization of US grids with smart grid capabilities would save between $ 46 billion and $ 117 billion over a twenty-year period .
