THE ENERGY INTERVIEW
The debate is not about“ renewables vs everything else” but about making clean power work harder, smarter, and more reliably.
Coming back to the decarbonisation of existing infrastructure, replacing a coalor oil-fired power plant with a gasfired one can reduce emissions by two-thirds, while at the same time enabling the integration of more renewables in the grid. Our goal is to decarbonise the industry in the most realistic and reliable way.
Q. DURING TIMES OF HIGH DEMAND, GRIDS STILL TURN TO GAS AS A BACK-UP, BUT HOW CAN MODERNISED GRIDS AND IMPROVED ENERGY STORAGE HELP TO PHASE OUT GAS?

» This will be a gradual transition. Wind and solar are essential for decarbonisation, but they are weatherdependent. Electricity systems will continue to need reliable, flexible thermal generation to maintain stability when renewable output falls or demand suddenly increases.
